Thanks for requesting your free course - "How to Create Your Information Products." By reading this message, you'll complete the first step towards online success!

Success in any venture, whether online or offline, big or small, can almost be 100% assured, given enough time, drive and capital.

But we live in an impatient society - people to meet, places to go, things to do. You just want to "get it done", or succeed, and move on.

So, what is the quickest and best way for you to do it?

The first step would be to study those who have come before you, and failed. Failure, in itself, is not bad. There are many successful persons who have said that it is failure that have brought them to where they are now.

But failure is a waste of time.

So, take some time to look through the following examples of how people have failed. Study them and make sure you understand why they failed. You will save a lot of time and money, by not making the same mistakes.

* Multi-Level Marketing (MLM)

You may have been lured by MLM programs promising easy money. The advertisements will typically have words like "pre-launch", "forced matrix", "spillover", "explode" and "get in early".

The advertisements will generally give the impression that the programs are new, and that if you get in now, you can sit back while somebody else builds your down-line, or does the work, for you.

I suppose there may have been some rare cases where you reap the rewards while somebody else does the work, but most of the time, those expecting easy money will be disappointed.

MLM does work for someone - the person right up the top. The problem is that it's never sustainable. Eventually it will dry up and the people further down will always be the ones to lose money.

* Shopping Malls

Some have built shopping malls with a wide assortment of products. They have stocked the malls with everything from pencils and rulers to the kitchen sink, and more. The rationale is that with a wide selection, there will be something for everybody.

They will proceed to promote their malls in free classifieds, affiliate links and banner exchanges. Some may even pay for advertising.

They will get a trickle of traffic from their advertising, but many of them will not even sell a single item! Web surfers are generally interested in looking for specific information rather than shopping. If you were to offer them what they need first, and then attempt the sale, you would probably do very much better.

That means building a site with a narrow focus, catering to a specific audience.

* Paid to Surf the Web

There are many sites that will pay you for practically anything that you do online, including reading email, visiting sites, searching, chatting, playing games and even listening to the radio.

I guess you can make a couple of bucks from such programs but I don't think anybody has managed to make serious income from such programs.

* Automated Marketing Systems

And then there are those marketing automated systems. Invariably they will start with what you already know - that Internet marketing is hard work, that it isn't easy to succeed, and that it takes a lot of perseverance.

And they will tell you that most will eventually fail.

They will continue by claiming that after years of experimenting, they have come up with an automated system that does the recruiting, selling, marketing or whatever else needed - a system that guarantees your success.

All you have to do is to follow their system to the letter, and you are on your way to riches.

There are many variations on the above theme, too many to go into here. Generally, you will be asked to pay a one-time fee, or a monthly fee, or do some grunt work and you will get a reward that is ridiculously disproportionate to the work, or intelligence, or money that you put in.

If you are tempted, ask yourself this question:

"If I did develop such a system, would I sell it at such a low price?"

Or

"If I did develop such a system, would I be selling it at all???"

I'm sure that you can think of lots more ways that a person can fail.

Once you take away the lure of quick money, once you see the get-rich-quick schemes as nothing more than outright scams or simply unworkable, what is the lure of the Internet?

There are many advantages to starting an online business as opposed to an offline business. The main advantages are the following:

  1. Extremely Low Startup Cost. Perhaps one of the most attractive aspects of business on the Internet is the extremely low barrier to entry. If you were to consider a normal offline business, we'd be talking about some sort of office space or shop space, one or two employees at the very least, some kind of inventory, maybe renovations, and lots of other smaller expenses.  Even if you were to work on a shoestring budget, you may need at least $50,000 to run for a year.  And a lot of businesses do not show a profit in the first year. Do you have $50,000 to spare? And that's just for the first year!  The Internet, on the other hand, actually allows you to start a business at little or zero cost.  Of course, it is highly advisable for you to pay for certain things, like a domain name, web hosting and guide that will help build and promote your business. Your business will run more smoothly and gain more credibility, and be more profitable in the long run. For a start, we could be talking about $200 to $500 for the first year. You can afford that, right? Bet that's less than your kid's allowance.
  2. You Are Working for Yourself. Ever really stopped to think where you are heading? You are earning a monthly salary with yearly increments and bonuses. Not bad actually. But how about that dream of owning the luxury yacht and the small plane? You can work 16-hour days for the rest of your life, but those dreams will remain just that - dreams. The company can take off because of your hard work, and you can get nice fat bonuses, but the only person that will be getting the yacht and the plane will be your boss. You are never going to get that yacht and plane. Things will be different when you are running your own online business.You can work very hard, or you can take it easy. The good thing about it is that you will reap the rewards of your work, or laziness. If you take it easy, your business probably will not go that well but if you work very hard, that yacht and plane will be well within reach.
  3. You Can Work Part Time. For most offline businesses, working part time is not an option - at least during the starting stages. You will have to quit your job, sink in a good sum of money into the business, work like a dog, and hope that in one or two year's time, the business will still be afloat. 80% - 90% of businesses never make it past the first year. For an online business, you do not need to quit your day job. You just need to invest an hour or two a day and some pocket change - $200 can be enough - and you are off. When the income starts to get serious, you can then consider quitting your job and working full time.Talk about having your cake and eating it.
  4. You Can Work in Your Underwear. Or, you can work without it, but that's not what this course is about. One of the attractions of working online is that you can work at home. Imagine not having to rush through your morning routine everyday, afraid that you'd be late for work. You can have a nice leisurely breakfast  and then, maybe still in your jamies, pop into the office for work. Imagine the time and money you'd save not having to commute to work. And, your time is flexible as well. You don't have to be worried that the boss will be unhappy that you have to take half a day off for that afternoon dental appointment. You just give yourself half day off.

* Can anyone make money online?

Absolutely.

Here're just some of the real-life examples:

  • Example #1 - Jonathan Yeh was an HR consultant. Using his spare time, he created his first product on career consulting. He went from zero to making a monthly income of $10k+, working from home.
  • Example #2 - John Surrey was a school teacher. He created his first product on the SAT and ACT preparation that now brings him a steady monthly income of $12k from the Internet. That is just his part-time pursuit.
  • Example #3 - Scott Zimmerman was an IT professional. His first product was on online computer programming training. His product sold so well ($25k monthly) on the Internet that he decided to quit his regular job and be his own boss.

You see, making money online is not rocket science. In fact, I will bet that you are probably dealing with harder things in your job right now.

Yes, there will be a learning curve. Yes, there will be setbacks and disappointments. And yes, things will probably be slow at first.

But that's what happens when you try anything new, Internet-related or not.

But after a while when you do some research and experiment, and get a few initial things done by following correct instructions, the business will become easier and easier. In fact, it will become much easier than you expect.

The online business is no different. It is just something new for you to try. You'll get the hang of it after a while.

But I'm sure you still have some concerns. That's normal. Let me address the more common concerns.

* "I can't sell to make a living"

Sorry, pal.

On the Internet, selling is necessary. There are no two ways about it - you have to sell.

But selling on the Internet and selling in real life are two completely different things. You don't have to look the customer in the eye, shake his hand, or compliment him on his absolutely atrocious golf game.

Selling on the Internet is actually very much simpler. In the beginning, you have to test and refine your sales pitch but once you get it right, you just keep doing the same thing.

What is even better is that once you automate your business procedure, the automatic procedure will be the one doing the sales pitch and following up with the customer. You just have to answer the occasional email.

* "I don't have enough time"

Let's face it. You are never going to have enough time. You will always  have commitments, schedules and deadlines. Make time!

* "I have got no money"

Hey, don't look at me. I'm not going to lend you any money.

But seriously...

All you need to do is to spend a little less on groceries, or cut the kids' allowance (sorry kids), or just stay at home and watch TV for one night of a month, instead of going to fancy movie theaters.

We talked about $200 a year, or $17 a month. Of course it helps if you can spare a little more, but $200 is perfectly adequate for the first year. I'm sure you can afford that.

* "The Internet business is not my expertise"

I am not going to tell you that you don't need to learn anything new. I am not going to tell you that a three year old can learn this.

I am not going to tell you that it is as simple as ABC. You are here, aren't you? You are reading this on the Internet so you have already figured out how to log on to the net and surf the web.

You are halfway there.

You are a professional. You're doing harder stuff every day. I will bet that you can do it, too.

So how do you start?

Anyone trying to make money or start a home-based business online faces a bewildering array of contradictory information.

On the one hand, you see advertisements promising you ridiculous sums of money for doing practically no work.

On the other hand, you hear of big name dot-coms dropping like flies.

They have millions of dollars, talented programmers, graphic designers and marketers, and yet...

And you do read of small online ventures that make it big, or earn great income. You want to become one of them.

However, unless you actually sit down and start creating part #1 of your first (or next) product, you will never find your way to success online.

In the next 11 lessons sent to you every other day, you'll learn the main aspects of how to create your information products and how to promote and market them. The lessons are:

  1. How to make your decision
  2. How to create your product
  3. How to package up your product
  4. How to build your website

I'll be back tomorrow with lesson 1.
